I. BRIEF HISTORY

The 6 ARBOs led by Maronquillo MPC were established as a business unit for the DAR-Gawad Kalinga ARCCESS Project in Bulacan. The DAR-GK ARCCESS project aims to improve the farm-based income of each of the ARBOs and their ARB members through agri-based social entrepreneurship.

While DAR provides capacity development on agri-extension, organizational development, financial management and delivery of CSF, GK provides business mentoring through the social entrepreneurs as well as market linkage demonstration farming will be established inside GK's Enchanted Farm

They have a potential to produce Lemongrass and Citronella for sure market like Human Nature and Elarz Lechon

  Catacte SN MPC : Palay and vegetables. Eventually, the ARBO could produce malagkit rice for sure institutional markets

The farmers traditionally produce rice, vegetable and coffee. While these will be pursued with better technology, extension and marketing, high-value commodities (lemongrass and citronella) will be produced. These new commodities are needed by new markets forged by GK such as Human Nature and Elarz Lechon

  • In general, the 6 ARBOs need to review their systems, policies and procedures; to update them to suit social enterprise requirements
  • They need to strengthen their capital build up
  • They need to tie up their existing crops to new institutional markets
  • They also need capacity development for new crops and commodities like lemongrass
  • They need re-orientation on financial management and back office support
  • Required CSF: 90 HP tractor, oil extractor, rice mill, thresher, combine harvester, mechanical transplanter
